Although the concept of kendradhipatya Dosha finds mention in Brihat parasara Hora Shastra , Ududaya Pradeepa ( Laghu Parasari), Phala Deepka of Mantreswara, Uttara Kalamrita of Kaldasa and Bhava Manjari of Mukunda daivagya, it is definitely a very controversial concept as it goes against some basic rules of Indian astrology propounded by Parasara himself, which I shall delineate later. Varahamihira, Kalyana Varma, Prithuyasas, Jayadeva, Dhundiraja, Vaidyanatha, Venkatesha, Somayajee and many eminent astrologers have not given any credence to kendradhipatya Dosha. We do not find any mention of such Dosha in Brihad Yavana Jataka also. Besides, there are some fascinating views regarding this Dosha amongst the astrological fraternity.
Kendradhipatya Dosha is a subject matter of functional astrology. It is a fundamental rule of functional astrology that lords of the Kendras (1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses) and the lords of Trikonas (1ST, 5TH, and 9th houses) are always auspicious. Functional astrology, based on the lordship of houses, deals only with functional beneficence and malfeasance of planets and it has little to do with natural benefic or malefic properties of planets.
It's Effects on Hindu functional astrology-
i. Trinal houses (5th, 9th, and 1st) and their lords are auspicious;
ii. Kendra house (1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) and their lords are auspicious;
iii. Trika house (6th, 8th, and 12th) and their lords are held to be evil and inauspicious;
iv. Trishadaya house (3rd, 6th, and 11th) and their lords are evil and inauspicious;
v. Upachaya house (the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th) and their lords are said to give economic affluence.
vi. The 2nd and 11th houses and their lords may give both wealth and power.
vii. The 2nd, 7th, 11th, 12th and 8th house their lords are Marakas.
It is obvious that functional beneficence or malfeasance of a planet is determined by the auspicious or inauspicious house, owned by it and not by its natural beneficence or malfeasance.
Accordingly, all Kendra house and their lords are deemed to be auspicious irrespective of whether these houses be natural benefices or natural benefices or natural malefic. Hindu astrologers have said ’the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses to increase in their auspiciousness in successive order.’ But as the 1st house is both a Kendra and a Trikona, the 1st lord or Lagna lord is rightly held to be most auspicious like a Yogakaraka planet.
कोणेशत्वे यदैकस्य केन्द्रेशत्वं च जायते |
केन्द्रे कोणे स्तिथोवासौ विशेषाषाढ़ योगकारक: ||
Meaning thereby, if the same planet owns a Kendra together with a Trikona. It becomes a Yogakaraka. If it occupies a Kendra or Kona, it becomes all the more powerful Yogakarka. (Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra. Advocates of kendradhipatya Dosha, however, to say that natural benefits owning Kendra houses, as a rule, do not give favorable results, whereas natural malefic as lords of Kendra houses may not give inauspicious results. Some other say that natural benefits as lords as lords of Kendra houses may provide inauspicious results, while natural malefic as lords of Kendra houses may give auspicious results. There are yet some others who say that this rule is applicable only under certain conditions.
